Service and Philanthropy

The members of Indiana Gamma are always striving to give back to our community.  It is a requirement that each and every brother achieves 10 hours of community service per semester.  Any member who does not complete the 10 hours of community service per semester is determined to be “Not in Good Standing” with the fraternity.  Although this is a big reason to give back to the community, many of the brothers do it because they enjoy helping out the community and campus itself.  Below is listed the events Indiana Gamma has participated in.

True Gentlemen Day of Service

Middle Way House is one of the strongest bonds that Indiana Gamma has in the community by the constant help we give them.  During the True Gentlemen Day of Service 9 members of Indiana Gamma painted a lady’s house named Jean.  The True Gentlemen Day of Service is an annual event Indiana Gammas will take part in, starting in 2008.

Brothers handed out boxes, garbage bags, a list of accepted items, as well as an email document supporting the cause to other greek houses.  The email had a PowerPoint developed to educate to the other houses what the Middle Way House does and what services they provide.  The outcome of this event was two and a half carloads of clothes along with other items needed for the Middle Way House were donated and Best Buy donated $1,000 in the name of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

SRSC Family Fun Night

Brothers teach kids board games, watch over arts and crafts, play sports, or monitor the play pin.  This is a monthly event put on by the SRSC and is a nice way for many of the members to get their hours.

Middle Way House

Brothers helped clean out the Coca-Cola plant that Middle Way House purchased to expand the number of rooms for domestic violence victims.  We also moved tiles around, fixed disconnected light fixtures and suspended ceiling tiles, and also helped load their recycling truck with cardboard.

ΣAE’s Rock-N-Bowl for Cancer

The event was geared towards helping the Americans Cancer Society Research Fund, in respect to the passing of Brandon Bennett’s grandmother by cancer.  The event was open to all students at Indiana University, not just the greeks.  The event contained food, drinks, live music by the band South Jordan, bowling, and billiards.  Brothers painted a bridge and passed out flyers to promote event.  $326.65 was raised for the American Cancer Society.
